Letter of Recommendation

To Whom It May Concern,

I have been acquainted with Steven Coy in several distinct settings. I first encountered Steven, the writer and filmmaker, and was immediately struck with his unique vision and talent for storytelling. Steven and I co-edited a literary anthology, during which time he became my main man. We have also been long-time workout partners.

As co-editor of BOOM! For Real, I found Steven to be exceptionally organized and professional, while at the same time admirably convicted in his opinions. He has an acute aesthetic sense, particularly with regard to writing. Steven is notably apt at diplomacy. He has a remarkable ability to communicate effectively and a true propensity for doing so in culturally diverse settings.

Steven’s español no tiene madre, thanks in part to his recent travels in México. His group of friends, both locally and globally, represent a mélange of backgrounds and inclinations that constitute the sopa siete mares on which his ever-adventurous soul thrives. Steven has taught me a number of useful colloquialisms, and we have collaboratively nicknamed various fellow gym goers.

Steven has been my workout partner for the past two years. Our exercise activities have principally entailed weight lifting and head-to-head racquetball competition. Throughout this period, Steven has been enthusiastic in his efforts to get buff, as well as in his desire to defeat me on the racquetball court. It is with regard to racquetball that I have been most impressed with Steven’s tenacity since, early on, I beat him relentlessly. It was approximately nine months before he won his first match (except for the time that I was drunk, which he graciously refused to consider a legitimate victory). Eventually, Steven became my match, and his abilities have since eclipsed mine in many regards. His drive continues to inspire me. Two essential qualities of a good workout partner are an amiable disposition and the ability to motivate another. Steven is jovial at the gym and has convinced me to do ab work on countless occasions when I would otherwise have said, “Fuck it.”

The above qualities have made Steven my main man, a singular position for which he is hugely qualified. I wholeheartedly recommend Steven for any endeavor, be it personal or professional, that he should see fit to pursue. It is the consensus of myself and those with whom I have discussed the matter that Steven is in the top 5%.

Sincerely,
Ian Whitacre
